Bar area complete!

Home improvements to the max.
Serious.

We have this little nook that the previous owner had set up as a breakfast nook.  Who in their right mind would eat breakfast in a nook that isn't wired for TV, is away from pretty much everything, and can only house a very very small table with 2 chairs?
No one.
Low and behold, bar area!  We have more time to drink than to eat breakfast at the house anyways.

I didn't take a picture prior to moving furniture in ( i didn't think i would be blogging about it!) so please excuse the mess.  The buffet in the back we received from "his" parents and although I liked the wood, I hated the color, it was green.  More on that later.

BEFORE PHOTO
Look how tiny this room is.. serious.

I perused alot of images trying to find something I wanted to replicate, color wise, for the room that would not be too distracting from the colors in the rest of the house.  We both like that old time-y bar feel so this is what we came up with;

I printed out a color palate from Sherwin Williams to kind of guess what would look good together. The base coat was a ridiculous yellow color (purpose) and I couldn't wait to get the orange on over it!
I used the "color wash" technique but in more of a broad pattern.  Literally towards the end I was using my full arm range to "wax on, wax off" with the orange.
NOTE: its much easier to ADD more orange, than to remove orange... big note there. BIG ONE

You can see the yellow underneath.. it was like a nursery color.  Boo.

After the orange decision was made (with a little convincing from me to the boyfriend) obviously the white boarders/framing HAD TO GO.  I also tried to replicate old time grimy bar (residue) that usually builds up in the corners - so we did some brown.
NOTE: AGAIN LESS IS MORE. Learned the hard way for the second time.  The very back wall i went a little toooo heavy with the brown.. cant really fix it once its up!

I was so ridiculously pleased with the way this was turning out.  We thickened up some of the lines and then carried it up around the ceiling.

Whats a bar - without a bartop.
Commence "floating shelf" bar from Pinterest ideas! (made with 2x4's like a picnic table)
Sanding away

Moooorrrr sanding.  Getting the corners at the right angle was a pain in the ass - we have 0 carpentry skills. 0. Like -50 if you want to be technical.

We moved the chandelier from the dining room (it didnt match in there) to here.. because i hate boob lights. H.A.T.E them.

and jumping waaayyyy forward - thats the buffet, I stained it a darker color to match the area a bit better. The block thing on top is actually a wine holder.. man do i love that thing - purchased from Amazon.

After digging around through a bunch of random crap we happened to have lying around...
BOOM FINISHED PRODUCT

All i need is bar stools now.

One more time before and after!

Glad its done and its currently filled with bottles!
